Harlem Renaissance

The Harlem Renaissance was an explosion of art and culture in Harlem, New York City in the 1920's. Many African American authors, poets, artists, mucisians, dancers, teachers, and other community leaders came together to create works of art that celebrate themes of social justice and African American traditions. Below you can see many paintings from the Harlem Renaissance era. See if you can notice themes similar to those we are examining in non-fiction and poetry.
